The Trillium grandiflorum (white trillium) is the provincial flower of Ontario from whence they came, and like it, the painted trillium also grows in North Carolina, the state to which they first moved.

Since arriving in the USA, these Kennedys have also adopted a motto:

Dominium et Onus

(Ownership and Responsibility)

Behind the motto is the vision of living as:

  1. Owners of our own lives, believing that we are responsible for our own actions and circumstances
  2. Change agents, capable and inclined to affect change in the situations of our lives and in our community
  3. Confident and humble learners and creators, pursuing a life-long adventure of living
  4. Virtuous contributors and builders of society
